Oman hosts 40 local and international companies for golf tourism workshop

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), in collaboration with the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), Oman Air, and several private-sector tourism partners, is hosting a workshop on golf tourism. The event features the participation of 40 international tourism companies from Asia and Europe specialising in golf tour packages, along with 20 local companies.

The workshop aims to facilitate bilateral meetings between international tourism companies and their local counterparts in the Sultanate of Oman, who are involved in golf tourism. These 20 local companies represent golf courses in Muscat Governorate and other tourism companies operating in this sector. The event seeks to showcase Oman's key tourism attractions in the field of golf and strengthen collaboration between international and local partners to promote and develop this promising sector.

The workshop program includes familiarization tours to major tourist attractions in the governorates of Muscat, Al Sharqiyah North and Al Dakhiliyah. It is hoped that the event will further establish the Sultanate of Oman as a leading global destination for golf tourism.

Khalid Mohammed Al Azri, Director of Tourism Patterns at the MHT, stated, “This workshop is a significant event for one of the promising sectors, namely golf tourism. The Sultanate of Oman possesses unique natural attributes that make it an ideal destination for golf enthusiasts."

He added, “Oman is home to world-class golf courses, such as Al Mouj Golf, La Vie Golf, Ras Al Hamra Golf Club, Ghala Golf Club, and Jebel Sifah Golf. These courses blend modern designs with breathtaking natural landscapes, offering not just a venue for playing golf but a comprehensive experience that combines sports and leisure. Additionally, Oman's moderate climate for most of the year makes it a preferred destination for athletes and tourist groups alike."

Al Azri also highlighted Oman's strategic location and easy accessibility through an extensive network of airlines, which provide an opportunity to attract more visitors from Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world. He noted that Oman offers a rich cultural experience, enabling tourists to enjoy golf while exploring the country's authentic heritage.

He emphasised that investing in golf tourism not only boosts sports tourism but also contributes to diversifying the national economy and creating job opportunities for Omani youth. “At the Ministry, we are working to promote and develop this sector in collaboration with our partners, including travel companies, international organisations like IAGTO, and hospitality establishments, to ensure an exceptional experience for all visitors," he concluded.
